Hugoton School District is located in Southwest Kansas in Hugoton, the county seat of Stevens County. Hugoton Schools serve just over 1100 students in grades pre-K through 12. A high percentage of our teachers have advanced degrees and we have staff with a range of experience levels. USD 210 maintains an assessed evaluation of over 176 million dollars.
In November of 2008, Hugoton voters passed a $21 million bond issue by a 71% "yes" vote. The bond monies have provided some excellent new facilities that include: a new middle school academic wing, new 6,000 square feet Eagle's Nest cafeteria serving both the high school and middle school, and a new athletic complex. In addition, a state of the art Early Childhood Development Center has been constructed to house all-day kindergarten which has allowed expansion of our pre-school and early childhood services.
The quality of life in Hugoton is enhanced because of our commitment to young people and families. This is evidenced by the strong Hugoton Recreation Commission programs, a state of the art public library, nine hole golf course, over twenty places of worship, a thriving economy, and excellent pheasant hunting. Finally, Hugoton is located near many interesting destinations (Amarillo, TX - 3 hours; Red River, NM - 4 hours; Angel Fire, NM - 4 hours; Colorado Springs, CO - 4.5 hours)
Hugoton schools have a history of achieving Standard of Excellence. None of our schools have ever been placed on improvement and our district continues to take the lead on many educational issues.
Hugoton School District was one of the first district's in the state of Kansas to de-emphasize the state assessments and fully adopt the Kansas College and Career Ready State Standards. As a result, the Hugoton School district has fully implemented the KCCRS State Standards. The teachers in the district have developed a curriculum that raises the level of rigor in instruction to meet the demands of the KCCRS State Standards.
Technology plays a vital role in the education of the students at Hugoton. All students in grades 7-12 have Macbooks. The elementary school also uses Ipads and Mimio's to engage student learning. Please visit our district website for more information: www.usd210.org.
